PFAS Definition
OECD DEFINITION
Organisation for Economic Cooperation & Development Per- and Polyflouroalkyl substances (PFAS’s) are defined as any substance that contains at least one fully fluorinated methyl (CF3) or methylene (CF2) carbon atom (without any H, Cl, Br, I attached to it). Also referred to as “forever chemicals” as they do not naturally breakdown. IMPLICATIONS This definition includes ALL fluoropolymers. Examples: PTFE, PVDF, FEP, FKM, FFKM, etc. Under this definition there is no such thing as “PFAS-free” for these materials >10,000 substances are affected. |
